Delta’s 1st quarantine free flight took off on Tuesday from Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson International Airport heading to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The airline hopes that this is an opportunity to reopen long-haul international travel.

Testing is required on both ends of the flight. Delta noted that all passengers and crew on the flight had tested COVID-19 negative.

“Air travel is the backbone of the global economy. In normal times, it supports more than 87 million jobs and contributes to $3.5 trillion in GDP worldwide. The arrival of a vaccine is fantastic news, but it will take time for it to become widely available around the world. It’s for this reason we have worked tirelessly with the authorities and our partners to create a blueprint for travel corridors that will enable air travel to safely resume.” , Perry Cantarutti, Senior Vice President-Alliances and International, Delta Airlines.

What is quarantine free program?

Delta in partnership with KLM is running the quarantine free program. This allows customers who are permitted to travel to the Netherlands for essential reasons such as health, work and education, to avoid quarantine on arrival in the Netherlands.

Flights will run 4 times a week in which twice-a-week will be run by Delta and the other twice-a-week will be run by KLM.

Before the flight, passengers must test negative from a PCR test taken 5 days before earlier. After arriving at Atlanta Airport, passengers will have to take a rapid test in order to confirm their negative results. After arriving in Amsterdam, passengers will take one more rapid test and if they test negative, they will not need to quarantine.

Rome flights

On 19th December,2020, Delta will begin its quarantine free program on flights between Atlanta, Georgia, United States and Rome, Italy. The flight will run thrice-a-week.

For Rome flights, the whole process will be same for passengers except that passengers will need to present a COVID-19 negative test result taken 3 days earlier.
