Emirates schedules A380 service on 1 hour flights to Bahrain in June

Emirates yesterday announced that it is deploying its flagship Airbus A380 aircraft on its daily service between Dubai and Bahrain. Previously, it was operated by a Boeing B777-300ER. This will be the 1st time there will be scheduled A380 services from any airline to the kingdom of Bahrain.

A380 to Bahrain

Just after Emirates resumed daily A380 flights to New York JFK, the airline has now scheduled its superjumbo aircraft on flights to Bahrain. The airline currently operates twice-daily flights to Bahrain from its hub at Dubai. Specifically, the airline will use its A380 on these flights:

  • Dubai-Bahrain
  • Departure time: 15:50
  • Arrival time: 15:50
  • Flight time: 1 hour and 20 minutes
  • Flight number: EK839
  • Bahrain-Dubai
  • Departure time: 17:50
  • Arrival time: 20:00
  • Flight time: 1 hour and 10 minutes
  • Flight number: EK840

The reason behind the decision is to accommodate the growing demand between Dubai and Bahrain during the summer season. The double-decker A380 can carry 14 first class passengers, 76 business class passengers and 417 economy class passengers for a total of 507 passengers. In comparison, Emirates Boeing 777-300ER is configured to hold a maximum of just 442.

Note that if you want to fly on the Airbus A380, make sure you book the afternoon service and not the morning service. The Dubai-based airline will still use its Boeing B777-300ER on the morning service. And you will need to be quick as Emirates is only operating A380 to Bahrain for the month of June. Come July and the B777 will be back on both the daily services to Bahrain.

Emirates states that the decision ‘demonstrates the operational readiness of the new airport to provide the necessary infrastructure to accommodate for an A380 service’. This means that passengers travelling from Dubai to Bahrain will get to experience the superjumbo followed by the brand new US$1.1 billion airport terminal in Bahrain.

Additionally, to fill up the double-decker and to encourage travel, the airline is also offering special fares to popular destinations for Bahrainis including Dubai, Istanbul and Maldives. Economy passengers can fly to Dubai starting from BHD 108, Istanbul from BHD 226 and Maldives from BHD 400. Fares in Business Class start from BHD 683 to Dubai, BHD 770 to Istanbul and BHD 1,063 to the Maldives.

The UAE recently loosened travel restrictions so people arriving in Dubai from Bahrain would not need to quarantine upon arrival.

Emirates’ A380 present routes

Currently, Emirates operates the A380 to New York JFK, Paris, Jeddah, Amman, Cairo, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Moscow and will soon be deploying the aircraft to Los Angeles in July.

Meanwhile, Emirates recently announced the resumption of flights to Phuket, Venice and also extended the ban on suspension of flights to India. The carrier yesterday announced flights to Miami.
