WestJet to launch flights to Amsterdam; to resume flying to London

Calgary-based WestJet has announced that it is expanding its international network ‘to include one of the world’s most connected cities’, Amsterdam, the capital of Netherlands. In addition, the airline will resume flying to London Gatwick in July.

Amsterdam calling

Starting 5th August 2021, WestJet will fly twice-weekly between Calgary International Airport and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. The schedule for the route is:

  • Calgary-Amsterdam
  • Departure time: 20:55
  • Arrival time: 13:30 (the next day)
  • Flight time: 8 hours and 35 minutes
  • Flight number: WS20
  • Frequency: Thursdays and Sundays
  • Amsterdam-Calgary
  • Departure time: 15:30
  • Arrival time: 16:15
  • Flight time: 8 hours and 45 minutes
  • Flight number: WS21
  • Frequency: Mondays and Fridays

As aforementioned, the service will operate 2-times-a-week and will increase to 3-times-a-week from 9th September 2021 until 31st October 2021 . The flights will be operated by a Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner featuring 16 lie-flat business class seats, 28 premium economy seats and 276 standard economy class seats.

This year, our guests will have another direct option from Calgary to a bustling centre of commerce and culture. WestJet’s new route from their home and hub at YYC to Amsterdam, will connect Calgarians to Europe and Europeans to Albertathrough one of the best connected airports in the world.

While WestJet is not part of any airline alliance, it does partner with KLM, among others. Connections to various destinations in Europe such as Athens, Berlin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Munich, Vienna and Venice will be available. According to the carrier, the new service is timed to ensure that transatlantic flights departing from Calgary to Amsterdam are scheduled to support late-day departures and daytime arrivals.

Presently, KLM is the only airline operating flights between Calgary and Amsterdam.

London resumption

As of 5th July 2021, WestJet will once again operate flights between Calgary International Airport and London Gatwick Airport. The schedule for the flight is:

  • Calgary-London Gatwick
  • Departure time: 18:30
  • Arrival time: 10:00 (the next day)
  • Flight time: 8 hours and 30 minutes
  • Flight number: WS1
  • Frequency: Mondays and Fridays
  • London Gatwick-Calgary
  • Departure time: 12:00
  • Arrival time: 13:57
  • Flight time: 8 hours and 57 minutes
  • Flight number: WS2
  • Frequency: Tuesdays and Saturdays

The airline is currently operating flights between London and Toronto. Flights between the UK capital and Toronto will operate 3-times-a-week. The schedule for this flight is:

  • Toronto-London Gatwick
  • Departure time: 21:00
  • Arrival time: 08:46 (the next day)
  • Flight time: 6 hours and 46 minutes
  • Flight number: WS3
  • London Gatwick-Toronto
  • Departure time: 14:15
  • Arrival time: 17:00
  • Flight time: 7 hours and 45 minutes
  • Flight number: WS4

WestJet recently announced more Boeing B787 Dreamliner flights to Hawaii. The airline will operate 25% more flights this winter compared to 2019.
