Qatar Airways increases frequency to the United States with over 100 weekly flights this summer

Qatar Airways is expanding its services in the United States this summer as travel demand continues to grow. The national carrier of the State of Qatar will fly over 100 weekly flights to the US across its 12 destinations, including Seattle and San Francisco that were added in the last year alone.

In a statement yesterday, Qatar Airways announced that it is increasing presence in the United States once again this summer. Four destinations will see double daily flights, one destination will increase to 12 weekly flights while five destinations will see daily flights.

Qatar Airways’ US network will be:

  • New York JFK: increasing to double daily flights from 29th June
  • Chicago: increasing to double daily flights between 21st July and 26th September
  • Los Angeles: increasing to double daily flights between 16th July and 26th September
  • Washington D.C.: increasing to double daily flights between 22nd July and 26th September
  • Dallas/Fort Worth: increasing to 12 weekly flights between 11th July and 26th September
  • Houston: no change – will continue with daily flights
  • Boston: increasing to daily flights from 3rd July
  • Miami: increasing to daily flights from 4th July
  • San Francisco: increasing to daily flights from 29th June
  • Seattle: increasing to daily flights from 28th June
  • Philadelphia: increasing to 5-weekly flights from 6th July and daily flights from 21st July

The only two destinations which are not seeing frequency increases are Houston and Atlanta. The airline only resumed flights to Atlanta at the beginning of this month, thus officially restoring its US network. On the other hand, Qatar Airways will continue with a daily service to Houston, after it increased from 4-weekly flights last year.

Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive, Qatar Airways, said:

We are proud to be the leading international airline providing safe and reliable connectivity to and from the United States via the only 5-Star COVID-19 Safety Rated Airport in the Middle East, Hamad International Airport. Qatar Airways has remained committed to the United States throughout the pandemic, adding two new destinations with San Francisco and Seattle, while increasing flights across our 12 gateways to optimise connections with our growing network of over 140 destinations.

He added:

We have also strengthened our strategic partnerships with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and JetBlue enabling us to connect to more cities and airports in the United States than any other airline, providing U.S. travellers the most convenient way to travel internationally this summer. As we continue to lead the recovery of international travel, we will remain focused on providing seamless, safe and reliable connectivity to our millions of passengers and providing an unparalleled travel experience every time they choose to fly with Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways will benefit in two-three ways by increasing frequency to the United States. As more and more passengers look to start flying internationally once again, the carrier will be able to capture both inbound and outbound travel demand to the nation. These increased services are in addition to the carrier also expanding flights to several of its leisure destinations including Cape Town, Maldives, Phuket, Seychelles and Zanzibar, positioning itself as the go-to-carrier for connectivity.

The other benefit is that it can significantly boost its cargo services. Qatar Airways Cargo, the cargo arm of the airline, is the world’s largest cargo operator and the US is a very important and key market for goods from across the globe. The increase in flights means that the airline can carry even more cargo in the coming months.

Another benefit will be partnerships. Fellow Oneworld Alliance member, American Airlines and newly-entered Alaska Airlines, alongside codeshare partners JetBlue, offer Qatar Airways the opportunity to grow its network in the US. Qatar Airways, in total, now offers tickets to a whopping 230 cities in the United States, the most of any global carrier.

As the aviation industry slowly comes out of its worst year on record, the Doha-based airline is continuing with its ambitious expansion plans. The airline has announced 4 new routes in Africa in the last 2 months, as it looks to capture cargo demand in addition to passenger traffic.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways has recently announced resumption of flights to Phuket, Sharjah and Málaga.
