Air Canada has announced that it is continuing to rebuild its global network for this summer, which includes the resumption of 17 routes and 11 destinations across the world from its hubs.

Air Canada is rebuilding its Global network after it had to suspend services to various destinations due to low load factor as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As of 1st August 2021, the airline is resuming its service between Calgary and Frankfurt and is also offering for the first time, a ‘unique’ nonstop service between Montreal and Cairo.
Mark Galardo, Senior Vice President, Network Planning and Revenue Management at Air Canada, said:
As travel restrictions ease across the globe, we are committed to rebuild our international network and continue as a global carrier to connect Canada to the world, while also developing additional markets and targeting new opportunities. Canadians are eager to travel again, and we are ready to reunite customers with their families and friends. With vaccination rates globally increasing and our industry-leading CleanCare+ bio-safety protocols, Air Canada has your health and safety as its top priority.
The following routes are resuming (along with their start dates and frequency):
- Toronto-Vienna – starting 21st July 2021 – 3-weekly flights
- Montreal-Geneva – starting 22nd July 2021 – 3-weekly flights
- Calgary-Frankfurt – starting 1st August 2021 – up to 4-weekly flights
- Toronto-Dublin – starting 1st August 2021 – 3-weekly flights
- Montreal-Tel Aviv – starting 1st August 2021 – 2-weekly flights
- Toronto-Paris – starting 2nd August 2021 – up to 5-weekly flights
- Toronto-Zurich – starting 3rd August 2021 – 4-weekly flights
- Montreal-London – starting 3rd August 2021 – up to 4-weekly flights

Regarding the resumption of services between Calgary and Frankfurt, Mr. Galardo said:
We are pleased to restart our non-stop service between Calgary and Frankfurt, a key European market for our customers in Western Canada. This route will operate all year long, connecting Calgaryto the world via the global hub of our trans Atlantic joint venture partner, Lufthansa, in Frankfurt. We are also considering additional routes as restrictions continue to loosen.
In addition to this, the flag carrier of Canada has already resumed flights to Greece, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and Morocco and will increase frequencies to some of these destinations from August.
The Montreal-based airline has already resumed these routes (along with their frequencies):
- Toronto-Athens – up to 5-weekly flights in August
- Toronto-Dubai – 3-weekly flights
- Toronto-Rome – up to 4-weekly flights
- Toronto-Lisbon – up to 3-weekly flights
- Montreal-Athens – up to 5-weekly in August
- Montreal-Casablanca – up to 5-weekly in August
- Montreal-Rome – up to 3-weekly flights
- Montreal-Lisbon – 2-weekly flights
- Vancouver-London – up to daily flights in August
Air Canada also recently launched its first and ‘unique’ non-stop 3-weekly service to Cairo from its Montréal hub, serving the large Egyptian community established in Montreal and throughout North America.
The airline continues to operate to several other destinations including: Brussels, Bogotá, Doha, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo. To check the full schedule, click here.
Note that the airline states that it may adjust the schedule as required based on the COVID-19 trajectory and government restrictions. Air Canada also reminds passengers that they are responsible for ensuring they meet all government entry requirements, including holding the correct travel documents, visas, any required health certificates, and all other eligibility requirements for any flights they purchase. Air Canada’s new refund policy is applicable to all tickets purchased. It offers customers the option of a full refund to the original form of payment, an Air Canada Travel Voucher or the equivalent value in Aeroplan Points with a 65% bonus should the airline cancel or reschedule a flight by more than three hours.
Meanwhile, Air Canada recently announced that it will serve 50 Canadian airports this summer. The airline has also launched a simplified solution to upload COVID-19 related travel documents. Rival carrier WestJet has also announced restart of multiple routes across Canada.
