Bhavnagar Airport

Bhavnagar Airport is an airport located approximately 4 kilometres southeast of Bhavnagar, Gujarat. The airport has one runway, oriented 07/25. It has a single terminal building, which covers 1,617 square metres (17,410 sq ft) and has a capacity for 110 passengers. The airport can handle aircrafts such as Boeing B737 and Airbus A320.

The airport currently handles only one daily ATR72 flight which is operated by Alliance, Air India’s regional subsidiary, to Mumbai. While SpiceJet will compete with Alliance Air on Mumbai route, it will have a monopoly on Delhi route.

Bhavnagar is Gujarat’s fifth largest city by population. The city is located near the Gulf of Khambhat in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat.

SpiceJet’s Gujarat expansion

With the addition of Bhavnagar, SpiceJet will now serve six cities in Gujarat. These include Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Kandla and Porbandar.

Lately, the airline has been expanding aggressively in the state. Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of India, the airline has launched flights to Porbandar and Kandla. From Porbandar, the carrier operates daily flights to Mumbai (the flight for now remains suspended, but is scheduled to resume on 1st September 2021) while from Kandla, SpiceJet operates daily flights to Mumbai and Delhi.

At Rajkot, the airline started flights after the collapse of Jet Airways. It flies to Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru (remains suspended for now, but scheduled to resume from 1st September), Goa and Hyderabad.

Ahmedabad is a focus city for SpiceJet while it operates multiple flights from Surat.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet recently announced 42 new domestic and international flights including flights to Maldives as the country is now welcoming travellers from India. The airline has also announced flights from Hyderabad to Kochi; from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam and Guwahati and between Belagavi and Delhi. SpiceJet has launched nonstop flights between Rajkot and Goa, becoming the first airline to operate the route. The carrier has also launched flights between Mumbai and Amritsar.
