Singapore Airlines to launch seasonal flights to Seattle and Vancouver

Singapore Airlines has announced that it will launch seasonal flights to Seattle and Vancouver. This marks the airline’s return to Canada after it suspended its Singapore-Seoul-Vancouver flights in 2009.

Return to Canada

From 2nd December 2021 to 15th February 2022, Singapore Airlines will operate 4-weekly flights from Singapore to Seattle via Vancouver. Two of the weekly Seattle-Vancouver-Singapore flights will operate as Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) services, providing eligible travellers quarantine-free entry into Singapore.

The schedule for these flights is:

Flight SQ29 will be SIA’s twice-weekly designated VTL service. Note that Flight SQ27 will be twice-weekly Seattle-Vancouver-Singapore service that is not a designated VTL flight. This would cater to travellers who are ineligible to enter Singapore under the VTL arrangement.

Vancouver and Seattle flights will be operated by a Airbus A350-900 featuring 42 Business Class seats, 24 Premium Economy Class seats and 187 Economy Class seats.

As far as I can tell, this new service will not take passengers between Vancouver and Seattle as part of a fifth-freedom service.

In addition to this, SIA is also converting its daily non-stop services from San Francisco to Singapore to designated VTL services from Wednesday, 20th October 2021. These flights are in addition to the already announced VTL flights to Los Angeles and New York in North America.

Flight schedule of Singapore-San Francisco-Singapore route is:

  • Singapore-San Francisco
  • Departure time: 18:40
  • Arrival time: 19:05
  • Flight time: 15 hours and 25 minutes
  • Flight number: SQ34
  • Frequency: Daily
  • San Francisco-Singapore
  • Departure time: 22:05
  • Arrival time: 05:45 (+2 days)
  • Flight time: 16 hours and 40 minutes
  • Flight number: SQ33
  • Frequency: Daily

For this service, SIA will deploy its A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range) aircraft featuring 67 Business Class seats and 94 Premium Economy Class seats.

Ms JoAnn Tan, Senior Vice President Marketing Planning, Singapore Airlines, said:

With the new Singapore-Vancouver-Seattle flights and the conversion of San Francisco-Singapore to a VTL service, SIA customers can enjoy even more seamless travel options to North America during the year-end holiday season. SIA will continue to monitor the demand for air travel, and adjust its services accordingly.

The addition of San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver expands the SIA Group’s VTL network to 17 cities.

Meanwhile, Singapore has expanded quarantine-free travel with 9 more countries.
