Republic of South Africa (yes, that is it’s official name, you’re welcome!) has finally lifted the travel restrictions on India! You can travel there for any purpose, be it leisure or business given that you comply with the mandatory conditions that are required to be followed to keep the COVID-19 related safety protocols in place.

You will first have to send your visa application to your nearest VFS Global Office. Secondly, the Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa has asked all international travellers to follow the prescribed safety norms at all times while travelling.
Thirdly, you will have to provide a valid COVID-19 negative test report.
Lastly, people travelling must also provide a negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) report taken not more than 72 hours before the time of boarding the flight. Others who are coming in from the ‘yellow fever belt’ of South Africa will also have to produce a vaccination certificate.
If you fail to provide a valid test report, you will have to go into self quarantine at your own expense.

South Africa, much like other countries all over the world had put restrictions on all international travel in March 2020 to slow the spread of virus. It had reopened its borders from October 2020 but, India was not on that list.

Below are the documents that Indian travellers will need to carry in order to travel to the Republic of South Africa –

  • A passport with at least 30 days of validity and blank pages
  • Complete visa application document
  • Proof of hotel bookings
  • Daily itinerary
  • Two passport-size photos
  • Valid air tickets
  • Bank statement of three months with at least INR 3,000 in balance
  • A self-attested cover letter with the details and duration of the trip
