Both of these flights will be operated by a Airbus A320. There can be two reasons why Indigo is adding second daily flight on this route. First one being, it is getting a good response on the present flight while the other can be that it wants to capture the market from SpiceJet. SpiceJet presently has a daily flight between the two cities. However, this is a route that is seldomly operated.

In addition to the second daily flight on Mumbai-Rajkot route, Indigo is expanding its Delhi services as well from Rajkot. As of 1st September 2021, the low-cost carrier will increase flights between Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Rajkot Airport from 4-weekly to daily.

While the capacity increases for Mumbai and Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are getting flight cuts. During the second wave of COVID-19 in India, Indigo stopped serving Rajkot due to low demand. After the situation improved, it restarted services to Mumbai and Delhi but not to Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

While Bengaluru services are now scheduled to resume in the Winter schedule from 31st October 2021, the airline has cut the once-weekly Rajkot-Hyderabad flights altogether.

In the last month only, there have been two instances where Indigo has started services to airports where SpiceJet had a monopoly. These are Jabalpur and Gwalior. While Indigo used to serve Jabalpur in the past, Gwalior is a totally new destination for the airline.

For now, it remains to be seen how Indigo will be able to capture the market in Rajkot.

Meanwhile, Indigo recently launched flights from Darbhanga, Bihar. The airline will operate daily flights to Hyderabad and Kolkata from the city. Indigo has launched flights on a brand-new route connecting Hyderabad and Srinagar. The airline has also announced a new route between Lucknow and Doha and is offering 10% discount to vaccinated passengers. The carrier will also be resuming flights to Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh after a brief absence and launch flights from two new cities to the Maldives. Indigo is the first airline in India to trial the IATA Travel Pass. A few days ago, the airline launched a payable Priority Boarding facility. Indigo has also started flights to Bareilly under the Indian government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme with flights to Mumbai and Bengaluru.

That would be a good move for Indigo as 3 daily flights on Rajkot-Mumbai is normal traffic.

Yes, certainly.

Presently there are 3 flights a day but as mentioned in the article, SpiceJet rarely operates the flights between Mumbai and Rajkot. So now that Indigo is adding a second daily flight, Rajkot will for sure have 3 daily flights: 2 by Indigo and 1 by Air India.
