Finnair to fly to nearly 100 destinations in summer 2022; adds Busan, Tokyo Haneda and Dallas to its network

Finnair has announced that it is preparing for the continued expected gradual opening of Asia, and plans to serve nearly 100 destinations in Asia, the US and Europe during the summer season, which begins on 27th March 2022.

Finnair says that if travel restrictions allow, it will resume service to all the 5 destinations in Japan it served before the pandemic – Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo – and launch a new service to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. Altogether, Finnair will operate up to 40-weekly flights between Helsinki and Japan in summer 2022. Finnair will operate daily flights to Tokyo Narita and Haneda, offering a total of 14 weekly frequencies to the capital of Japan. The Helsinki-based carrier will fly daily to Nagoya and Osaka and will fly twice-daily to Osaka in June 2022. Finnair’s Sapporo route will be introduced for the summer season for the first time with twice-weekly flights. Fukuoka in Southern Japan will receive Finnair flights 3-times-a-week.

Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer, Finnair, said:

We look forward to the world continuing opening again. Before the pandemic, Japan was our single largest market outside our home market Finland, and we look forward to returning to all our five destinations in Japan.

Finnair will launch new flights to Busan in South Korea and Dallas in the United States. Flights to Busan will be operated 3-times-a-week starting in March 2022 while flights to Dallas will be operated 4-times-a-week starting 7th February 2022. Finnair will provide easy connections to its passengers with its partner, American Airlines’ network.

Ole Orvér added:

We are also opening a new route to Busan in South Korea, demonstrating our continuous commitment to offering the best and most sustainable connections between Europe and Asia via our Helsinki hub. We are also pleased to strengthen our network in the US by adding Dallas as a new destination. Our customers will be able to enjoy great connections to other cities in North America through the extensive network of our alliance partner, American Airlines.

Finnair will continue to operate daily flights to key Asian megacities – Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore and Bangkok. In addition to this, Finnair will operate daily flights to Delhi as of June 2022.

In North America, Finnair will fly to Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, in addition to new flights to Dallas.

As intercontinental traffic grows, the airline will also strengthen its European network from Helsinki with easy connections to more than 70 European cities, including new destinations Zagreb and Larnaca. It will offer double daily flights to cities like Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Vienna, Zürich, Gdansk and Milan, and even more daily frequencies to Paris, London, Berlin, Warsaw, Brussels, St Petersburg as well as the Scandinavian and Baltic cities.

The Helsinki Airport is expanding, with the new Terminal 2 entrance, arrivals hall and travel centre with the new parking and public transportation arrangements opening in December 2021, and new security control and check-in area opening in summer 2022. Finnair says that the expansion of the airport will further support the Finnair customer experience with easy transfers at Helsinki.

Ole Orvér added:

We look forward to being able to serve more customers in a more personal way. I also look forward to updating you on some additional destinations and routes within the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Finnair recently announced codeshare with Turkish Airlines.
