Etihad Airways has announced that it will start flying to Lisbon in Portugal while also returning to Málaga and Mykonos for the summer season.

These flights will be operated by Etihad’s Boeing B787-9 Dreamliners featuring Business Class and standard Economy Class seats.

We’re excited to introduce flights to Portugal for the first time and provide our guests with convenient travel options to one of the most popular summer destinations for 2023. As one of the oldest cities in Western Europe, the coastal city of Lisbon is a great entry-point to exploring the rest of the country, with perfect beaches, historic castles, fantastic nightlife and a warm and welcoming people. Our new direct connection will enhance the trade and tourism ties between the UAE and Portugal, and we are grateful for the support of the Portuguese authorities in establishing our new air link.

said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways.

This will be a monopoly route for Etihad Airways. It’s neighbour, Emirates, also does not operate any flights to Lisbon. So in reality, these will be the only nonstop flights on offer between the United Arab Emirates and Lisbon.

Returning to Málaga and Mykonos

In addition to launching new flights to Lisbon, Etihad Airways will be returning to Málaga on the Spanish Costa del Sol and the popular Greek island of Mykonos this summer.

The Abu-Dhabi based carrier will fly to Málaga two-times-a-week as of 18th June 2023 with the following schedule:

  • Abu Dhabi-Málaga
  • Departure time: 02:10
  • Arrival time: 08:00
  • Flight time: 7 hours and 50 minutes
  • Flight number: EY47

  • Flight time: 6 hours and 55 minutes
  • Flight number: EY48
  • Frequency: Wednesdays and Sundays

Lying on a wide bay with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and one of the most visited coastal cities in Spain, Málaga is famous for its miles-long sandy beaches, culture and food. Málaga flights will also be operated by B787-9 Dreamliners.

Etihad will also resume its summer seasonal flights to Mykonos, with the airline flying twice-a-week to the Greek Island as of 16th June 2023 with the following timings:

  • Abu Dhabi-Mykonos
  • Departure time: 07:15
  • Arrival time: 11:05
  • Flight time: 4 hours and 50 minutes
  • Flight number: EY175
  • Frequency: Mondays and Fridays

For some reason, I could not find the schedule of Mykonos-Abu Dhabi flights. I will update the article as soon as the flights are available for sale.

Mykonos flights will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring Business and Economy Class cabins. With world-class beaches, restaurants and entertainment, as well as plenty of opportunities to discover ancient Greek history, Mykonos, lying in the deep blue waters of the Aegean Sea, is one of the hottest summer spots in Europe.

With the addition of new routes to Lisbon, Malaga and Mykonos, Etihad Airways will be offering travellers nearly 160 weekly flights to 21 destinations in Europe this summer, with 20% more seats available than in 2022.

Meanwhile, Etihad Airways recently announced that it would start flying to Copenhagen and Düsseldorf later this year.
