SpiceJet to launch flights from Rajkot to Hyderabad

SpiceJet will launch nonstop flights between Rajkot and Hyderabad in addition to increasing frequency to Mumbai.

Rajkot, a city in the Indian state of Gujarat, is all set to get direct air connectivity to Hyderabad. Indian low cost carrier SpiceJet will launch flights between the two cities starting 7th March.

It is not yet known whether the airline will deploy a Boeing 737 or a Bombardier Q-400 aircraft. However, seeing the flight time, it looks like it might be a Boeing 737.

Increase in frequency to Mumbai

SpiceJet is also increasing frequency of flights between Rajkot and Mumbai. At the time, the carrier is operating a single daily flight between the two cities, but starting from 7th March, the airline will operate a second daily flight.

Flight to Goa soon

If all goes as scheduled, people of Rajkot will soon be able to fly directly to Goa. This will also be the 1st time that Saurashtra ( region in which Rajkot is situated ) will get direct air connectivity to the coastal state.

According to Times of India, the Rajkot airport authority has got principal confirmation of SpiceJet starting flights to Goa from March. The flight is likely to operate 4-days-a-week.

Being the financial and business hub of Saurashtra region, traders and industrialists have constantly been demanding better air connectivity from Rajkot. Earlier, the city only had flights to two cities namely Mumbai and Delhi. But with SpiceJet launching flights to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Goa, it looks like there will be a much better connectivity from the city. Industry experts believe the addition of new flights will boost business as well as tourism the Saurashtra region.

Indigo also to start a base at Rajkot

Indian low cost carrier Indigo has also announced that it will create a station at Rajkot along with 6 other cities in India. It is not yet known as to where will Indigo operate flights to from Rajkot and when. The terminal building of Rajkot airport is very small and cannot accommodate passengers of two flights at the same time. The airport authority of Rajkot said that they have asked for 20 to 30 minutes’ time in between arrival and departure of an aircraft. But it is a possibility that as many as 10 flights will operate out of Rajkot daily.
