Last week, American Airlines announced that it will add yet another long-haul route to New Delhi from its hub at New York. Well, this flight is now for sale, so we know what the schedule will look like. Let’s take a look.

Second route to India in the same month
American Airlines will also fly from Seattle to Bengaluru. This route was first announced in February 2020 but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the service never took-off. However, the carrier now plans to launch this route a day earlier than the New Delhi service.
Starting 30th October 2021, American will fly daily between Seattle in the United States and Bengaluru, also known as the Silicon Valley of India. Flight schedule for the same is:

Bengaluru route will be served by a Boeing B787-9 which has a total of 285 seats, including 30 business class seats, 21 premium economy seats, 34 extra-legroom economy seats and 200 standard economy class seats.

Resuming flights to India after almost a decade
American Airlines is resuming flights to India after approximate 9 and a half years. The airline last served the Indian market in March 2012 when it was running Chicago-New Delhi route. Since then, the carrier has remained absent in India. Interestingly the New York to Delhi route will use the same flight numbers that this route used to have.
American’s New York to New Delhi route is being added thanks to the American and JetBlue strategic alliance in the Northeast. With this we’re seeing American expand into new long haul markets, while JetBlue provides much of the regional feed for these flights.
The New Delhi route is the 5th new long-haul route announced by American is the past several months. The other 4 also from New York are:
- Seasonal Athens flight
- Year-round Rio de Janeiro flight
- Year-round Santiago flight
- Year-round Tel Aviv flight
Strong market between India and the US
Indian national carrier Air India operates a daily flight from New York to New Delhi and Mumbai. From San Francisco, Air India operates flights to New Delhi and Bengaluru while from Chicago, the airline operates to New Delhi and Hyderabad.
United flies daily from Newark to New Delhi and Mumbai. From Chicago, the airline operates flights to New Delhi while from San Francisco, it operates to New Delhi and Bengaluru.
And now, American will operate flights from New York to New Delhi and from Seattle to Bengaluru. All in all, when American starts flying to India, more than 10 flights a day will be flying between India and the United States.

Hi Eva Cooley, I am traveling from the US to Delhi via Philadelphia Airport on Tuesday (16th Feb). While I understand that we need to upload the RT-PCR test 72 hours before travel and upload it, I am not sure if the team can give it before my travel on Tuesday as Sunday is a holiday. So if we do the RT-PCR test on Saturday (12th Feb) evening or on Monday Morning, can we still upload the Negative RT-PCR test on Air Suvidha Portal before we board the final Flights to India from JFK? Please suggest the best ways to get the RT-PCR test considering the US requires 2 full business days to release the report and doing it on a weekend becomes a challenge.
Hello,
I suppose that you are flying on Tuesday i.e. 15th February. You can take a “Expedited” RT-PCR test (it’s a little expensive than the standard RT-PCR test) at Philadelphia Airport on Monday (14th February) or Tuesday (15th February). The expedited RT-PCT test’s result comes out in 4 hours so I think you will have enough time to upload the negative test result on the Air Suvidha Portal.
Happy and Safe Travelling! 🙂
