Singapore Airlines, one of the largest airlines flying into Australia, has announced that it is ramping up its operations to Australia as the demand for flights continues to surge.
Frequency increases on Melbourne route
Starting 1st June 2022, Singapore Airlines will operate 4-flights-a-day to Melbourne. With this, Melbourne becomes the second Australian city to handle 4-flights-a-day of Singapore Airlines. From Singapore Changi Airport, the Melbourne flights will depart at the following times:

Mr Louis Arul, Regional Vice President – South West Pacific, Singapore Airlines, said:
Since Australia’s borders opened on November 1, last year and as other countries have removed travel restrictions, we have seen continued growth in demand for travel. Australia has always been an important part of our global network since we first operated here in 1967, and we are pleased to have not only kept the country connected during the height of the pandemic but are in a position to support the recovery with increased operations.
Regarding the increase in flights to Melbourne, he said:
Increasing our services to four times daily in Melbourne is thanks to the collaborative efforts to facilitate continued growth in demand for travel to the Victorian capital by our key stakeholders, including the Victorian Government and Melbourne Airport.

Cairns and Darwin get frequency increases too
The flag carrier of Singapore has also increased flights to Cairns, a city in the north in the state of Queensland. Starting today (30th May 2022), the airline is flying 5-times-a-week to Cairns with the following schedule:
- Singapore-Cairns

Singapore Airlines recently started flights to Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory. It seems that the flights are proving to be successful as the airline is increasing flights to the city. Starting 31st May 2022, the airline will operate 5-flights-a-week to Darwin with the following schedule:
- Singapore-Darwin
- Departure time: 08:30

There’s more to it. The airline is swapping Darwin flights from a Boeing B737-800 to the latest Boeing B737MAX-8 aircraft.
Now, this means that every Singapore Airlines flight to Australia will feature a lie-flat Business Class seat. How awesome is that?
Arul continued:
Increasing services to holiday destinations such as Cairns and Darwin in the lead up to peak season shows that leisure travel is continuing to recover strongly. We will continue to remain nimble to ensure Australia remains connected with the right aircraft and schedules that will further support and facilitate the continued growth in travel demand, both to and from Australia.
From June 1, Singapore Airlines will operate 113-weekly flights between Singapore and 7 Australian destinations – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Cairns and Darwin – while low-cost subsidiary Scoot will operate 23-weekly flights across 4 Australian destinations – Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Gold Coast – for a total of 136-weekly flights.
