About Hollongi Airport
Hollongi Airport or “The Donyi Polo Airport” is located approximately 15 kilometers away from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. This airport will put the state’s capital on the air map, thereby highlighting the significance of air access with Arunachal Pradesh. Itanagar was the only state capital until now that did not have an airport.
The name “Donyi Polo Airport” reflects the people’s reverence of the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo), and symbolises the rich cultural heritage of the state.
The airport has a single terminal spanning 4100 square meters which can accommodate 200 people at a given time during peak hours. The structure was developed as an energy-efficient structure with a rainwater harvesting system, and a long-term landscape plan is also a part of the sustainable infrastructure development plan.
IndiGo will be the first airline to serve the newly-built airport. The arrival of India’s largest carrier is a good sign for the airport as this will mean that there might be new opportunities in the future, both for the airline and for the airport, once the market starts to build. After Kolkata, we can expect IndiGo to connect Itanagar with Delhi in the near future as it will open up more connection opportunities for Itanagar.
Regional carrier FlyBig is also expected to soon start services from the airport.
Meanwhile, IndiGo recently announced that it will launch flights between Mumbai and Istanbul.
