IndiGo strengthens its international network from Mumbai

IndiGo is strengthening its international network from Mumbai. The airline says that it is answering the strong demand for air travel out of Mumbai.

Singapore resumption

Starting 26th March 2023, IndiGo will once again operate daily flights between Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport. The flights will be operated by Airbus A320s featuring standard Economy Class seats with the following schedule:

  • Mumbai-Singapore
  • Departure time: 12:00
  • Arrival time: 20:00
  • Flight time: 5 hours and 30 minutes
  • Flight number: 6E1011
  • Frequency: Daily
  • Singapore-Mumbai
  • Departure time: 23:25
  • Arrival time: 02:15 (the next day
  • Flight time: 5 hours and 20 minutes
  • Flight number: 6E1012
  • Frequency: Daily

According to Singapore Tourism Board, India accounted for over 6,86,000 of the overall 6.3 million global visitor arrivals in 2022, emerging as Singapore’s second largest source market after Indonesia (1.1 million visitors). Mumbai-Singapore market sees a mix of leisure and business travellers. The market is crowded, with Singapore Airlines, Air India and Vistara operating flights.

The timings of IndiGo’s flights are somewhat “not normal”. Singapore Airlines operates a daily flight with similar timings to that of IndiGo’s but it carries mostly connecting passengers to Australasia and the rest of Asia instead of Origin and Destination (O&D) passengers.

IndiGo will instead focus on O&D passengers, and for that, the timings are odd, to say the least. Basically, your whole day is wasted and you can’t do anything in Singapore. Either, I am missing something here or I don’t know what is IndiGo thinking here.

Leaving that aside, IndiGo is making a re-entry in a already tried and tested market and the additional capacity in this busy market will be a welcome addition, that too with low fares (hopefully), resulting in more options for travellers.

We are pleased to connect the commercial centre of India to the commercial centre of Bangladesh, to serve business as well as leisure customers. As Maharashtra government is planning to invest more in the tourism sector and generate more jobs in the sector, Mumbai has a great potential to be a tourist hub. Introducing more flights on this route will not only enhance connectivity but also improve accessibility. We will strive to stay true to our promise of affordable fares, on-time performance, courteous and hassle-free service across our unparalleled network.

said Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales, IndiGo.

Mumbai-Dhaka is only served by two carriers, IndiGo and Vistara. While IndiGo is ramping up frequency to daily, Vistara serves the route twice-weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It seems that IndiGo is seeing a big opportunity here and has stepped up to get a hold on the route. The Mumbai-Dhaka market might continue to grow in the future and IndiGo will be the catalyst in doing that.

Meanwhile, IndiGo will launch flights on at least 27 new routes this summer while expanding significantly at North Goa airport.
