These flights will be operated by the low cost carrier’s Boeing B737MAX aircraft.
Kuwait is the fifth international destination for Akasa Air. The airline’s international network consists of Abu Dhabi (AUH), Doha (DOH), Riyadh (RUH) and Jeddah (JED). Flights to all these destinations are operated from Mumbai (BOM) with flights to Jeddah operated from Ahmedabad too.
Akasa Air says that this new service will “add significant passenger and cargo capacity to the route and will capture the perennial demand for VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) and business travel between India and Kuwait”.
India has a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with many countries, including many in the Middle East. The prime market in the Middle East (easily within the range of B737MAX aircraft) is Dubai. However, flying rights between India and Dubai have been exhausted from both sides. With limited options, Akasa Air has looked at adding other lucrative markets such as Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh and Jeddah.
The B737MAXs can easily fly to Southeast Asia. Akasa Air has until now not indicated any intentions to fly to Southeast Asia. However, if more flying rights to the Middle East don’t open up anytime soon, we may see the airline start flights to Southeast Asian markets like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Phuket amongst others.
