Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the launch of its re-imagined Gateway Hotels brand.
Gateway Hotels
Gateway Hotels is a full-service upscale hotel offering by IHCL. The company, which also owns Taj Hotels, says that the “re-imagined Gateway will each capture a destination’s new dreams and fresh aspirations, embracing the rich tapestry of local ethos and culture, and in essence “Be the Gateway to the Destination”.”
Expanding IHCL’s brandscape, the reimagined Gateway introduces a full-service hotel offering in the upscale segment, an ideal fit to capture growth opportunities in micro markets of metros and Tier II and Tier III cities. Gateway will cater to the increasing domestic demand for quality accommodations with large banqueting facilities in emerging cities.
Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IHCL said.

Guests staying at a Gateway property “can expect vibrant, culturally-inspired spaces that reflect the spirit of each location”. Hotels under this brand will offer “generously sized guestrooms and suites, localized culinary options including a tea-lounge, all day diner, specialty restaurant and a bar, extensive meeting and celebration spaces and recreation facilities of pool, fitness centre and kid’s activities areas”. IHCL says that the integration of technology, such as in-lobby digital touchscreens, will provide “interactive ways to explore the hotel and its surroundings”.
Post-pandemic, the hospitality industry has witnessed a permanent shift in consumer behaviour, wherein travel has become a part of a household’s or individual’s consumption basket. The Gateway relaunch speaks to this rising consumerism trend in India, which is percolating across income groups within metros as well as tier I, II, and III cities. It also reflects the developer’s confidence in returns on capital employed.
IHCL said in a statement.
Gateway’s first property is in Bekal, Kerala while four properties – one each in Nashik, Coonoor, Madurai and Chikmagalur – have been converted into Gateway properties. An additional 12 properties are in pipeline, the details of which haven’t been shared by IHCL. The brand plans to have 100 hotels by 2030.
