WestJet expands its Hawaii schedule this winter by 25%

WestJet has announced a significant expansion in Hawaii flights this winter. The airline will offer 25% more flights this winter compared to 2019.

57 weekly flights on 10 nonstop routes

WestJet will offer a total of 57 weekly flights on 10 nonstop routes between Canada and Hawaii this winter. The airline will offer more service between Canada and Hawaii than any other airline. This comes after Air Canada announced additional flights to Hawaii for winter season.

John Weatherill, Chief Commercial Officer, WestJet, said:

With easing travel restrictions, we know our guests are planning to turn their long-awaited Hawaiian getaway dreams into a well-deserved reality. We’ve increased our winter service to Hawaii by more than 25 per cent from 2019 to ensure our guests have increased flexibility and the most affordable, non-stop options from Western Canada.

New service from Calgary to Kona and Lihue

Starting 19th December 2021, WestJet is adding new flights from Calgary International Airport to Kona International Airport on the island of Hawaii and to Lihue Airport on the island of of Kauai. WestJet will then serve four Hawaiian destinations nonstop from Calgary, as well as two from Edmonton.

  • Flight time: 6 hours and 57 minutes

  • Frequency: Only Sundays
  • Kona-Calgary

  • Flight time: 6 hours and 22 minutes
  • Flight number: WS1881
  • Frequency: Only Mondays

The flight schedule of Calgary-Lihue-Calgary route is:

  • Calgary-Lihue
  • Departure time: 14:00
  • Arrival time: 18:06
  • Flight time: 7 hours and 06 minutes
  • Flight number: WS1888
  • Frequency: Only Sundays
  • Lihue-Calgary
  • Departure time: 12:00
  • Arrival time: 21:22
  • Flight time: 6 hours and 22 minutes
  • Flight number: WS1889
  • Frequency: Only Mondays

Both the new routes from Calgary will be operated by a Boeing B737MAX-8 featuring 12 premium cabin seats and 162 standard economy class seats.

More B787 Dreamliner options

WestJet will add more Boeing B787 Dreamliner service this winter from Calgary and Vancouver to Kahului, Maui with 13 weekly flights. WestJet’s B787 service to Maui from Western Canada is conveniently scheduled with daytime departures to ensure passengers arrive in Maui in the early afternoon, with time to make the most out of their plans. The airline’s Dreamliner features 16 lie-flat business class seats, 28 premium economy seats in 2-3-2 configuration and 276 standard economy class seats in a 3-3-3 layout.

1st Hawaii resumption in August

WestJet plans to restart 3-weekly flights to Honolulu on the island of Oahu from Vancouver in British Columbia on 8th August. Resumption of 3-weekly flights from Toronto will happen in mid-December, along with Calgary to Maui, Vancouver to Maui, and Vancouver to Kona.

Starting 12th December 2021, the Canadian airline will introduce twice-weekly nonstop flights between Montreal and Honolulu. Nonstop 3-weekly flights from Calgary to Honolulu will start from 18th December 2021. Flights are also meant to take European travelers to the Pacific islands, with connecting flights arriving from Brussels and Frankfurt to Montreal and from London Heathrow, Frankfurt, and Vienna to Toronto.

Recently, United States-based Southwest Airlines announced new flights to Hawaii from US’ West Coast.
