Etihad Airways to resume scheduled flights to Beijing

Etihad Airways has announced that it will resume nonstop scheduled flights to Beijing this week.

Starting 29th June 2022, Etihad Airways will once again operate nonstop scheduled flights between Abu Dhabi International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport. To start with, the airline will operate just once-a-week flight between the two cities under the latest mandate of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council.

The weekly-flight will operate with the following schedule:

  • Abu Dhabi-Beijing
  • Departure time: 18:00
  • Arrival time: 05:25 (the next day)
  • Flight time: 7 hours and 25 minutes
  • Flight number: EY888
  • Frequency: Only Wednesdays
  • Beijing-Abu Dhabi
  • Departure time: 02:10
  • Arrival time: 07:10
  • Flight time: 9 hours
  • Flight number: EY889
  • Frequency: Only Fridays

The flight will be operated by Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft featuring Business Class and Economy Class.

Martin Drew, Senior Vice President Global Sales & Cargo, Etihad Airways, said:

Etihad Airways is delighted about the resumption of passenger services between Abu Dhabi and Beijing, our second service to resume to China. China has always been an important strategic market for Etihad and the resumption of direct flights between the two capital cities will further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the United Arab Emirates.

At the time of writing, only a single flight is available – on 29th June 2022 from Abu Dhabi and on 1st July 2022 from Beijing. I am not entirely sure if this is a one-off flight or Etihad will continue to operate a weekly flight (although the airline mentions that it is “resuming” scheduled flights to Beijing, meaning that the flights other than those on aforementioned dates have just not opened for sale yet).

Note that those who are fully vaccinated six months prior to the departure date need to have a booster dose taken not more than 14 days before departure. For more information regarding entry requirements for China, click here.
