American Multinational Hospitality group Marriott yesterday announced that it has signed an agreement to introduce the JW Marriott brand in Spain, with a property in Madrid.
Located in the central Plaza de Canalejas, JW Marriott Madrid is scheduled to open in 2022. The hotel will be developed by Millenium Hotels Real Estate as part of their lease agreement with a wholly owned subsidiary of Belagua. The property will be close to museums such as the Prado and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, while the shopping centre Galeria Canalejas is located next to the property. Madrid-Barajas International Airport is a 20 minute drive from the hotel.
The hotel’s design will be led by local architects Arvo Arquitectura de Juan while the Madrid team at Rockwell group will do the interiors. The decor is expected to offer a sense of balance and warmth, inspired by the ‘principles of mindfulness’, using natural elements, interesting textures and ‘tactile spaces’. The restored hotel will consist of 139 guest rooms out of which, two floors of suites will be there, all featuring outdoor terraces. Plans for public spaces include a lobby bar, a distinctive restaurant and wellbeing spaces
Jenni Benzaquen, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Design Hotels & Europe, Middle East and Africa Brand portfolio, Marriott International, said:
