Kuwait-based low cost carrier Jazeera Airways has announced that it will fly to London Heathrow Airport starting next week.
Starting 18th June 2021, Jazeera Airways will fly between Kuwait International Airport and London Heathrow Airport. The service will be once-weekly, with the carrier planning to increase frequency as ‘travel restrictions ease’.
The flight schedule is:
- Kuwait-London Heathrow
- Departure time: 09:40
- Arrival time: 14:15
- Flight time: 6 hours and 35 minutes
- Flight number: J97
- Frequency: Only Fridays
- London Heathrow-Kuwait
- Departure time: 15:15
- Arrival time: 23:30
- Flight time: 6 hours and 15 minutes
- Flight number: J98
- Frequency: Only Fridays
The airline notes that:
Currently, only fully vaccinated Kuwaitis can travel into and out of Kuwait. A widening of entry permissions to Kuwait, to include all UK originating passengers who have been fully vaccinated, is under consideration.
Rohit Ramachandran, CEO, Jazeera Airways, said:
Our new service to Heathrow Airport enables Jazeera Airways to cater to popular demand for flights to and from London, including demand from business travellers, Kuwaiti students and the large segment of accustomed tourists who we believe are more than eager to return to London this summer, many of whom own homes in the area. As the vaccinations against the Covid-19 virus roll out in Kuwait and across the world, countries are opening their borders for a gradual return of summer traffic. Jazeera Airways’ pilots and cabin crew have already been fully vaccinated, and we continue to mandate strict safety measures in all our facilities. Our customers can rest assured that they will be travelling safely to and from London with us.
The planned launch comes despite Kuwait being placed on the UK government’s amber list of countries, meaning that anyone arriving into the UK must quarantine for 10 days and take 2 mandatory RT-PCR tests.
In October 2019 Jazeera Airways launched flights to London Gatwick airport, but these have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jazeera Airways will compete in the Kuwait-London market with Kuwait Airways, which currently offers 3-times-a-week flights between Kuwait and London using A330-200s, rising to 4-times-a-week flights in July. British Airways is also scheduled to resume flights to the middle eastern country on 7th July 2021, initially operating 3-times-a-week using Boeing B787-9s Dreamliners, before increasing to daily during August.
