IHCL to open a Taj resort in Gujarat’s capital city

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced that it will open a Taj resort in Gujarat’s capital city this year.

The Taj Resort & Spa in Gandhinagar will have 118 guest rooms and suites. The highlight of the resort will be the Jiva Spa with an expansive spread. Jiva is rooted in the rich and ancient wellness traditions of India, offering holistic programmes including yoga and meditation. The spa facilities will include eight treatment rooms, relaxation lounge, sensory Lounge, spa café, meditation room, sauna and steam, Turkish hammam, swimming pool and a fitness centre.

IHCL is renowned for its pioneering efforts in developing several destinations. The resort is located at a short distance from both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, opening a new tourist circuit in the state of Gujarat. With the expanding wellness travel market, this resort is well-positioned to cater to the growing need around the circle of wellness through its renowned and award-winning Jiva spa.

said Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IHCL.

The resort, scheduled to open in early 2023 (meaning anytime soon), will also have an all-day diner, a specialty restaurant, and a lobby lounge. A large banquet hall of over 400 square meters and 8,000 square meters of lush green lawns will be available for social events.

This resort will capture the latent demand in the state for luxury wellness. After the successful launch of Taj Skyline in Ahmedabad we are happy to work together once again with IHCL.

said Dr. Kailash R. Goenka, Director, Sankalp (with whom IHCL has partnered with for this resort).

Gandhinagar, the capital of the state of Gujarat is a blend of heritage, history and culture and is home to spiritually significant sites such as ‘Akshardham’.

With the addition of this hotel, IHCL will have 21 hotels across Taj, SeleQtions, Vivanta and Ginger brands across Gujarat including five under development.

The arrival of a Taj in Gandhinagar signals immense potential for luxury accommodations in the city. There’s already a Leela hotel present in the city, although that’s more focused on business and everyday travellers. It seems that this Taj resort will focus more on the “Wellness” part. This resort might be the first of its kind in Gujarat’s capital city. Hotel groups are more and more investing in Wellness-oriented resorts as travellers are increasingly taking “detoxing” trips, especially after the pandemic.

It is surprising to me that IHCL is opening a Taj branded resort in Gandhinagar, given that there has not been been a resort like this in the city before. Although this is true, the resort will mostly be a “weekend gateway destination” for those staying in the neighbouring town of Ahmedabad and also for those staying in the northern part of Gujarat.

Meanwhile, IHCL recently announced that it will open two new luxury Taj resorts in Lakshadweep.
