Japan Airlines has announced Doha as its first Middle Eastern destination. This route will be the first direct flight to the Middle East operated by a Japanese airline.
Starting sometime in summer 2024, Japan Airlines will operate a daily flight between Tokyo Haneda Airport and Doha’s Hamad International Airport. Furthermore, by launching this route, Japan Airlines will enable passengers to easily connect to Africa and South America through its partnership with Qatar Airways, a oneworld member.
Doha, the capital of Qatar, is a unique city that blends modernity and tradition. While preserving its own culture, the city offers modern facilities, hotels and infrastructure for immigrants and travelers, along with a mix of cultures and cuisines from different countries. Travelers can also enjoy a variety of activities such as desert tours, museums with historical treasures, and sporting events such as Formula 1 and soccer.

The airline will announce the flight schedule in the upcoming months, and reservations will be opened subsequently. This flight will be in codeshare with Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways’ Doha-Tokyo route will continue to operate in codeshare.
While the flight schedules are not out yet, Japan Airlines did confirm that it will deploy one of its Boeing B787-9 Dreamliners on the route. The airline’s B787-9s come in a three-class configuration, with 44-52 Business Class seats, 35 Premium Economy seats and 116 standard Economy Class seats.
Interestingly, Japan Airlines is one of the very airlines in the world which has a 2-4-2 configuration in Economy Class, rather than the standard 3-3-3 configurations. This makes the Economy seats on the airline’s B787s one of the widest in the industry.
