Japan Airlines has taken delivery of its first A350-1000 from Airbus’ delivery centre in Toulouse, France. The A350-1000 is set to become the airline’s new flagship international aircraft, initially flying on the Tokyo Haneda-New York JFK route.
Japan Airlines (JAL) Airbus A350-1000 is configured in four classes – six First Class suites, 54 lie-flat Business Class seats, 24 Premium Economy seats and 155 standard Economy Class seats.
JAL has ordered 31 A350 aircraft, comprising 18 A350-900s and 13 A350-1000s. The carrier has been operating the A350-900 on high density Japanese domestic routes since 2019.
First Class
The six First Class suites are designed to create a unique and exclusive cabin environment, according to JAL. The individual privacy doors, first for JAL, increases privacy while also creating a more open individual atmosphere with the elimination of overhead storage compartments.
The suite features three seating modes: Sofa, Seat & Single Bed, or Double Bed (when the seat is transformed into a need configuration). The suite has a seat pitch of 83 inches and a bed length of 80 inches when fully flat. The seats also features a 4K high resolution 43-inch inflight entertainment screen.
Passengers can connect their own wireless listening devices via Bluetooth. Starting from spring 2024, customers will be able to create their favorite movie and music playlists in advance using the JAL Mobile App and easily enjoy them during the flight. Additionally, visual support measures, including the ability to perform color correction, have been implemented.
The suite also marks the introduction of the world’s first headphone-free stereo with built-in headrest speakers, allowing passengers to enjoy the inflight entertainment system without using headphones. The headrest also has a reclining function, allowing comfortable viewing of the inflight entertainment even in bed mode. There’s also wardrobe and storage space for personal belongings inside the suite.

Business Class
Despite the increase in seat capacity to 54 from the current international flagship configuration, JAL says that “ample spacing has been prioritized to ensure a comfortable and individual inflight experience”. In Business Class, doors have been introduced for the first time to ensure privacy, and overhead storage compartments are exclusively positioned on the window side to create an open atmosphere.
The seat has a pitch of 52 inches while the bed length is 78 inches when fully flat. The headrest also has a reclining function, allowing comfortable viewing of the 24-inch 4K high resolution inflight entertainment while lying down. This seats also features the headphones-free stereo speakers technology. Electric privacy partition provides easy communication with travel companions.
Premium Economy Class
The Premium Economy seats feature large partitions to significantly improve privacy. It is the first Premium Economy Class in the world to introduce electrically operated reclining functionality. The seats have a pitch of 42 inches while they have a 16-inch 4K high resolution inflight entertainment screen.
Economy Class
JAL says that it has further improved its Economy Class seats.
They have a seat pitch of 33-34 inches while they feature 13-inch 4K high resolution inflight entertainment screens.
