These flights will be operated by Cambodia Angkor Air’s Airbus A320 aircraft featuring 180 standard Economy Class seats.

A journey to the historical wonders [of both nations] is a dream come true for adventurers who seek to explore numerous temples, historical sites and stunning natural surroundings. Therefore, this new route will attract more tourists and business travellers, contributing to the tourism and economic sectors of both countries.

the airline said in a statement.

This service by Cambodia’s national carrier is the first one ever between India and Cambodia. Now defunct Indian carrier GoFirst had plans to start flights to Phnom Penh but they never materialised.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed 5.45 million foreign tourists in 2023, a 139.5% increase from 2022, including 68,836 Indian tourists, a 102.4% increase. Indian visitors were ranked 14th after tourists from Thailand, Vietnam, China, Laos, the United States, South Korea, Indonesia, France, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Australia, Japan and Russia.

If this route works well for the airline, it might pave way for more flights between the two countries. IndiGo, which is focusing on expanding internationally at present, might look at the India-Cambodia market more closely and perhaps consider launching flights. It all remains to be seen but for now, it’s great to see nonstop flights starting between the two countries.
