Turkish Airlines has announced the addition of Sydney, Australia to its network, with one-stop flights beginning in December 2024.
Turkish Airlines to Sydney
Starting 4th December 2024, Turkish Airlines will operate 4-flights-a-week between Istanbul (IST) and Sydney (SYD) via Kuala Lumpur (KUL) with the following schedule:
- Istanbul-Kuala Lumpur
- Departure time: 15:15
- Arrival time: 06:20 (the next day)
- Flight time: 10 hours and 05 minutes
- Flight number: TK174
- Frequency: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays
- Kuala Lumpur-Sydney
- Departure time: 07:40 (the next day)
- Arrival time: 18:30 (same day as the flight departs)
- Flight time: 7 hours and 50 minutes
- Flight number: TK174
- Sydney-Kuala Lumpur
- Departure time: 20:40
- Arrival time: 01:55 (the next day)
- Flight time: 8 hours and 15 minutes
- Flight number: TK175
- Frequency: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays
- Kuala Lumpur-Istanbul
- Departure time: 03:55 (the next day)
- Arrival time: 10:15 (same day as the flight departs)
- Flight time: 11 hours and 20 minutes
- Flight number: TK175
Turkish Airlines will operate these flights with Airbus A350-900 aircraft featuring 32 lie-flat Business Class and 297 standard Economy Class seats.

Sydney Airport currently commands a 38% share of all Australia-Europe air traffic, and with the arrival of Turkish Airlines will be the only Australian airport to have two European carriers.
This announcement of direct flights marks a significant milestone for travel to Europe, offering passengers seamless access to hundreds of destinations from Turkish Airlinesโ Istanbul hub.

Destination NSW, the official tourism board of New South Wales, estimates this service will generate more than $53 million in incremental visitor expenditure over the first year and support more than 290 local jobs in NSW.
Turkish Airlines is one of the world’s largest airlines and these new, direct flights will boost access to NSW from key European markets via Istanbul.
The commencement of the service coincides with the busy summer period and will provide exceptional connectivity with cities across Europe for both leisure travellers and those visiting family and friends.

Future Plans
Turkish Airlines has also confirmed that Sydney will be the first Australian destination to receive nonstop flights from Istanbul when the airline receives aircraft capable to flying that long distance route in the future.
The flag carrier of Tรผrkiye currently operates 3-weekly service between Istanbul (IST) and Melbourne (MEL) via Singapore (SIN). With this service to SYD, the airline will operate 7-weekly flights to Australia.
Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines recently unveiled a new Business Class for its A350s and B777s.
