12th June 2025. A very sad day for the aviation fraternity and indeed for the whole world. An Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft bound for London Gatwick tragically crashed in Ahmedabad, India just after takeoff.
My thoughts go out to anyone who has lost their loved one. I cannot even begin to comprehend how that must feel. Even though I don’t know anyone involved in the accident, the whole thing has been hard to even think about.
Whenever an aircraft crashes, it takes with it a million memories, a million emotions and a million dreams. All of it in an instance. Just like that.
Air India has been an integral part of India, whether it is taking India to the world or bringing the world to India. It isn’t just an airline. It’s what India takes pride in, given its history. It’s what India is.
After the Tata Group took over the airline in 2022, there were many expectations. Naturally. Promises were made. Some of which have been fulfilled and some are being fulfilled. Surely, there are shortcomings of each airline, but to point fingers without any evidence, on anyone, be it the pilots or the airline, is disrespectful especially at this point of time when their loved ones are grieving their loss.
As an AvGeek, it disheartens me to see people around the world blaming the pilots or the airline itself. Of course, there would be opinions. There would be different theories forming in people’s minds. But any speculative approach is not only disrespectful but spreads misinformation too. I want to know what happened too but until any investigative reports come out, I am refraining from forming theories.
It’s truly sad to see media outlets being totally unaware of how the aviation world works and showing incorrect facts whereas, what they actually should be doing is keep the world informed in a right way and not encourage individuals who are coming out with baseless theories by bringing them on their live shows and debating whether the pilots did a right thing or not.
There are highly trained investigative agencies who specialise in detecting the reason behind a crash. Whatever the reason may be, be it engine failure or human error, the truth will come out in due course. Surely, it will take time.
Crashes like this are a combination of many factors at play and are not just usually due to one error. It’s a reminder of how painstakingly crucial each and every minor detail is to carry out a successful flight.
Once again, I urge everyone to be patient for the investigation results, and not post or forward any personal information of passengers or students on social media and violate their privacy.
VT-ANB, thank you for your service. You will certainly be remembered.
