Southwest Airlines has announced plans to finally operate out of Montana in addition to a new destination in Florida.
Starting 27th May, Southwest Airlines is finally starting operations in the state of Montana. The low-cost carrier will launch flights from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. Initial service will be double-daily flights to Las Vegas and Denver.
However, from 6th June, flights to Denver will increase to 4-daily roundtrips.
Flights from Destin/Ft. Walton Beach
Meanwhile, in Florida, the airline is adding Destin – Fort Walton Beach to its route network. From 6th May, the airline will start daily flights between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Destin – Fort Walton Beach & Dallas – Love Field and Destin – Fort Walton Beach.
In addition to these two routes, Southwest Airlines will be flying to Nashville International Airport 3-times daily. And beginning 6th June, the airline will start services between Chicago Midway International Airport and Destin/Ft. Walton Beach.
Southwest focusing on leisure destinations
It looks like Southwest Airlines is focusing on adding leisure destinations to its network- especially to warm weather and outdoor destinations.
Some of these include flights to Colorado Springs, Santa Barbara, Sarasota, Savannah, Montrose, Steamboat Springs and Palm Springs. All of these flights are scheduled to start at various points this year if they have not already gone into operation.
Southwest introducing flights to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is good news for travellers who want to visit Yellowstone. Bozeman is the closest airport to the park that Southwest will serve. Previously, anyone who wanted to fly with Southwest and visit Yellowstone would have to fly into Salt Lake City or Denver and do the mammoth drive to the park.
