IH Aviation and Travel had earlier reported that Emirates was planning to resume Airbus A380 services to New York JFK in the United States from 1st June 2021. Well, Emirates sticked to that date as the Emirates superjumbo landed for the 1st time in over a year at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport.
Back in action
After over a year of just being served by Boeing B777, Emirates has officially brought back the Airbus A380 at the start of the summer season.
Flight EK201 departed from Dubai International Airport at 08:58 local time bound for New York’s JFK airport. The journey to the Big Apple was made in 13 hours and 24 minutes by the superjumbo. The aircraft, A6-EVL, landed at 14:21 local time at JFK. The flight was the same except that this time, it was operated by a A380 rather than a B777.
The A380 service will operate daily, which indicates that the Dubai-based carrier expects a substantial traffic in the months ahead. While Emirates does operate a Boeing B777 flight from Dubai to JFK 3-times-a-week, the airline is also operating its Dubai-Milan-JFK fifth freedom route again. This flight is also operated by a B777 and takes 4 hours extra due to the stop, so keep an eye out while booking if you specifically want to fly on the A380.
The return flight, EK202, departs from JFK at 23:00 local time. The flight time is scheduled at 12 hours and 45 minutes (usually shorter than the scheduled flight time). It lands back in Dubai at 19:45 the next day.
Good news
The return of the superjumbo to the United States is good news for Emirates and the aviation industry at large. With the US and UAE having one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, travel is picking up steadily. With Dubai being a major travel hub, passengers from around the world will likely be connecting onwards to the United States.
The airline also plans to resume Airbus A380 services to Washington DC and Los Angeles from 1st July 2021.
Meanwhile, Emirates recently announced that it will resume flights to Venice while also increasing frequency of flights to Milan. The carrier also extended its ban on flights to India until 30th June 2021.
