IndiGo, in an understandable move, has cancelled its planned launch of Navi Mumbai-Jamnagar route, first announced on 5th March 2026. However, this doesn’t mean that the low-cost carrier is not starting flights to Jamnagar.
Jamnagar gets Mumbai connection
Starting 23rd April 2026 (the same day it was going to start Navi Mumbai route), IndiGo will operate a daily flight between Mumbai (BOM) and Jamnagar (JGA) with the following schedule:
- Mumbai-Jamnagar
- Departure time: 09:05
- Arrival time: 10:35
- Flight time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
- Flight number: 6E5150
- Jamnagar-Mumbai
- Departure time: 11:25
- Arrival time: 13:05
- Flight time: 1 hour and 40 minutes
- Flight number: 6E5151
These flights will be operated by Airbus A320ceo/A320neo aircraft and to/from BOM’s Terminal 1.
These flights are now bookable from 23rd April 2026 to 27th March 2027. Flights will operate to/from Terminal 2 at BOM as of 25th October 2026 when the winter schedule will begin.
Sensible move
When IndiGo announced flights between Navi Mumbai and Jamnagar in early March, I was a bit skeptical about the airline’s plan. Why? Because Jamnagar market is a mix of Visiting Friends and Relatives (VFR) and business traffic. That’s not to say that Navi Mumbai wouldn’t have worked.
However, Jamnagar has been served by Air India for many years now, from Mumbai. Building a new market like Navi Mumbai would have taken a lot of time. Add to that the long driving distance to/from Mumbai; the recent complaints of unavailability of cabs from Navi Mumbai airport; and the lack of good connections to/from cities all over India and you have a strong sense of what it would have taken to make Navi Mumbai-Jamnagar route work.
Additionally, the Gujarati community has a strong presence in and around the western and central suburbs of Mumbai, for whom Mumbai (BOM) is more convenient than Navi Mumbai.
Since the announcement in early March, I have been tracking how many seats had been sold for the inaugural Navi-Mumbai Jamnagar flight. Not so surprisingly, there weren’t any good forward bookings. And when DGCA released schedules for the summer season, I checked and found out that IndiGo had taken slots for Mumbai-Jamnagar-Mumbai flights (albeit with different timings) and not for Navi Mumbai. Plus, the prices for Navi Mumbai flights were unusual. From July, the rates were consistently in the range of INR 14,000 one-way which is strange for a one-hour domestic flight. So, with this move by IndiGo, it all makes sense now.
Good connections now available
I think the single biggest reason that wouldn’t have worked in favour of Navi Mumbai was the lack of connections to/from cities across India.
However, with flights to/from Mumbai, that’s not the case anymore. These new flights open up a whole lot of connection opportunities, both domestic and international.
For flights to Jamnagar, good connections are available from the following cities*:
- Bengaluru (BLR)
- Hyderabad (HYD)
- Chennai (MAA)
- Nagpur (NAG)
- Chandigarh (IXC)
- Jaipur (JAI)
- Goa (GOI)
For flights from Jamnagar, good connections are available to the following cities*:
- Chennai (MAA)
- Raipur (RPR)
- Kolkata (CCU)
- Bengaluru (BLR)
- Vijayawada (VGA)
- Rajahmundry (RJA)
- Udaipur (UDR)
- Delhi (DEL)
- Bhopal (BHO)
- Hyderabad (HYD)
- Goa (GOI)
- Mangaluru (IXE)
- Thiruvananthapuram (TRV)
- Kochi (COK)
- Lucknow (LKO)
- Chandigarh (IXC)
What still remains to be seen is whether three daily A320/A321 flights from Jamnagar to Mumbai are actually viable. I think we will have an answer to this question in due course of time.
*The cities listed are just to give a rough idea of the possible connections. For full list of possible and available connections, please refer IndiGo’s website.
