Indigo is offering 10% Discount to vaccinated passengers

Airlines in India are looking for different tactics to boost travel after the 2nd COVID-19 wave in India which has affected the aviation, travel and hospitality industry greatly. Indigo is one such airline. The low-cost carrier is offering passengers 10% discount on tickets if they are vaccinated.

Today, Indigo announced that it will offer 10% discount to vaccinated passengers. The carrier has become the 1st airline in India to offer passengers a discount on flight tickets if they have got their COVID-19 vaccine (single or both doses). This means that vaccinated travellers will get 10% off on the base fare of any flight. Note that only limited seats are available, so some routes or dates may not have the ‘Vaxi Fare’ available.

At the time of booking, passengers will have to enter their Beneficiary ID (printed on the vaccine certificate) to verify their status.

Once at the airport, passengers must show their vaccine certificate or proof through Aarogya Setu, India’s contact tracing app. If a passenger does not show the proof, applicable difference in fare and change fee may be charged.

Steps to book ‘Vaxi Fare’ tickets:

  • Passengers need to select the Vaxi Fare’ option while entering their arrival and departure destination details.
  • Depending on your vaccination status, select the first or second dose.
  • Choose the preferred flight and then select your onward and return flight option and continue.
  • Add valid beneficiary ID details.
  • Complete the booking.

A quick search on the Indigo website (which has a vaccinated tab in the booking engine) for a flight from Mumbai to Delhi shows savings when booking the Vaxi fare. Flying from Mumbai to Delhi under the normal fare costs ₹2,464 while under Vaxi fare costs ₹2,266.

Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer, Indigo, in a statement said:

Being the largest airline in the country, we feel it is our responsibility to contribute to the national vaccination drive, by encouraging more people towards this common goal. This offer will not only strengthen their resolve towards vaccination, but also ensure that they can travel safely at affordable fares with IndiGo. We are committed to offer an on-time, hassle-free travel experience to our customers, on-board our lean, clean flying machine.

The announcement by Indigo comes after Vistara operated India’s 1st flight with fully vaccinated crew.

Meanwhile, Indigo recently announced flights to Darbhanga that will start from 5th July. The airline is also preparing for 3rd wave in India by building up cash reserves.
