Spirit Airlines is coming to Miami (Update)

Update: Spirit Airlines has now put all 30 of these new routes out of Miami on sale, for anyone interested in booking a flight. Below you can find the original post from 9th June 2021.

Spirit Airlines is coming to Miami International Airport. The airline, which calls Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport home, is planning 30 routes from Miami, effectively turning it into its 2nd gateway out of South Florida.

A grand entry in Miami

Spirit Airlines, if all goes according to the plan, is expecting to launch operations from Miami on 6th October 2021. The carrier is targeting the following routes:

Starting 6th October 2021:

The airline has been obliged to release the list of destinations it intends to serve and dates it will come to Miami. As per the low-cost carrier, this has to be made public before obtaining gate and counter space at the airport. Once the coordination of gates and counters is complete, Spirit Airlines will offer its final schedule.

Note that the flight schedules and the cities may change depending on how the airline’s space is allocated in Miami. Once those details are fixed, the airline will begin selling tickets and release final flight schedules.

Not leaving Fort Lauderdale

Spirit Airlines is the largest airline in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In July, the airline anticipates reaching 100 daily departures out of the city for the 1st time. Even with the growth in Miami, Spirit believes there is enough demand for flying to South Florida to maintain both its strong Fort Lauderdale position and an expansive position out of Miami.

Spirit Airlines, with years of service to the airport, uses Fort Lauderdale as its primary gateway into Latin America and the Caribbean. There, the carrier can also target a larger domestic market with connecting passengers. Once the airline starts to serve Miami, it will be present in 7 of Florida’s 10 largest airports.

Meanwhile, Emirates has also announced that it will launch flights to Miami in July.
