The flights will be operated by Airbus A330-200 aircraft featuring 20 Business Class seats, 17 Premium Economy seats and 219 Economy Class seats.

Announcing the new route, ITA Airways said:

New Delhi is not simply the capital of India, it is a unique place where the mix of cultures, colors, and traditions make it so fascinating that it is one of the most popular tourist destinations for those who love a journey of discovery. Are you ready for India? Our flights depart from December 3rd; run to pack your bags!

This will be the first time that ITA Airways will serve the Indian market since the airline launched in October 2021. Alitalia, ITA Airways’ predecessor, used to serve New Delhi with the same flight number and identical times too.

Air India used to serve Milan and Rome prior to the pandemic. However, the Indian carrier has not resumed flights to Italy yet. Until Air India resumes flights to Rome (that is, if it does), ITA Airways will have a monopoly on the Rome-New Delhi market.

ITA Airways is currently up for sale with the Italian Government presently in talks with Air France-KLM and Delta Airlines over the sale of ITA Airways.

Meanwhile, ITA Airways will also launch flights to Maldives and Tokyo later this year.
