Note that on some days, some of these flights are still scheduled to be operated by Airbus A320 family aircraft while on some days, the B787-9 is not scheduled to operate any flights at all.

Also, if you are booking specifically to fly B787-9, do double check the aircraft for your flight before booking as Lufthansa can change the aircraft any time without notice.

Aircraft on rotation for these flights can change at short notice for operational reasons depending on the day of service.

warns Lufthansa.

Lufthansa took delivery of its first Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner, registered D-ABPA, on 30th August 2022.

Airlines generally do not deploy a new aircraft type (in this case, the B787 for Lufthansa) directly on international long-haul routes. It is common for airlines to deploy a new aircraft type on short-haul routes so that the crew gets familiarised with the new aircraft model. It also offers the chance to experience the new aircraft to somebody who does not fly long-haul often. When British Airways took delivery of its first Airbus A350, it initially deployed the aircraft between London and Madrid.

Additionally, Lufthansa has another advantage here. Frankfurt and Munich are both Lufthansa’s hubs so if anything goes wrong (technically) with the aircraft, then there won’t be a major problem.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa recently announced that it will bring back the Airbus A380 in the summer of 2023.
