Lufthansa to deploy Boeing B787-9 Dreamliners on flights to Mumbai and Hyderabad

German flag carrier Lufthansa has revealed that it will deploy Boeing B787-9 Dreamliners on flights to Mumbai. This will be the first time that this particular aircraft type in Lufthansa’s fleet will have scheduled flights to Asia.

Mumbai

Starting 29th October 2023 through 14th January 2024, Lufthansa will deploy Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner on the daily LH756/757 rotation between Frankfurt and Mumbai. Currently, these flights are operated by Airbus A340s and will be taken over by Boeing B747-400s from 15th January 2024.

Flights LH756/757 operate with the following timings:

  • Frankfurt-Mumbai
  • Departure time: 12:35
  • Arrival time: 01:00 (the next day)
  • Flight time: 7 hours and 55 minutes

  • Mumbai-Frankfurt

Until now, Lufthansa’s B787-9s exclusively operated to North American destinations, including Austin, Detroit, Newark, Dallas, Denver and Montreal.

The B787-9 Dreamliner is the newest long-haul aircraft type in Lufthansa’s fleet. The airline has an order for 34 of the type. However, the carrier has already taken delivery of five B787-9s that were initially destined for Hainan Airlines but were never delivered. These B787-9s feature different interiors than those aircraft in the pipeline which will be customised with Lufthansa’s upcoming new Allegris Business class.

The Frankfurt-Mumbai and Frankfurt-Hyderabad routes will see one of these B787-9s deployed. These have 26 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, 21 Premium Economy seats in a 2-4-2 configuration and 247 standard Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 layout.
