100-destinations strong!
IndiGo started operations in January 2006. Since then, the airline has continued to grow gradually, both in terms of network and fleet. IndiGo, with close to 58% domestic market share, continues to evolve the aviation landscape in India.
One interesting and notable thing about IndiGo is that it has not a abandoned a single city yet, meaning that it has not stopped flying to a single city since it started operating flights there (IndiGo for a brief period stopped flying to Jabalpur. However, Jabalpur is back on the airline’s network now).
Adding a new destination is a significant thing for any airline so it’s obvious that 100th destination is a milestone for IndiGo. Since some time, senior executives at IndiGo have been stating that the airline will now look at adding more international destinations to its network, given that the carrier flies to almost every big city in India already.
Addition of Ras Al-Khaimah is a step in that direction, with the route being mainly targeted at leisure travellers.
IndiGo will start taking deliveries of Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range) 2024 onwards. A321XLR will open new doors for IndiGo. The airline has already announced that it will look at adding cities like Nairobi in Kenya and Moscow in Russia to its network. Even cities in Eastern Europe will be accessible with A321XLR aircraft.
It’s great to see an Indian airline achieve a milestone of 100 active destinations and here’s wishing IndiGo all the best for its future. I will look forward to the time when IndiGo celebrates a bigger milestone of 200 active destinations. 😉
Meanwhile, IndiGo recently announced a new codeshare agreement with Virgin Atlantic.
