Flights will be operated by Akasa’s Boeing B737MAX aircraft featuring standard Economy Class seats.

We are pleased to launch Hyderabad as the 13th destination on our network. The city is an important centre of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals and connecting it with Goa and Bengaluru will cater to the strong demand for both, business, and leisure travel. As India’s fastest growing airline we have now established a strong presence in South India, in our effort to boost the country’s economy by strengthening its important transportation linkages.

said Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Akasa Air.

Akasa’s fleet is now 13-aircraft strong. We are seeing the fastest fleet induction at Akasa Air of any airline in India, with Akasa’s fleet already at 13 aircraft in just five months of operations. In December 2022, the carrier crossed the milestone of operating over 500 weekly flights and has announced a total of 20 unique routes across 13 cities, namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Agartala, Pune, Visakhapatnam, Lucknow, Goa, and Hyderabad.

Already expanding at Goa

Goa is a major tourist hub for Indian travellers. Tourists from all over India flock to Goa year-round for its pristine beaches and happening vibe. On 11th January 2023, Akasa will connect Goa with Bengaluru and Mumbai. With the Hyderabad launch, Akasa Air will now offer six daily nonstop flights ex-Goa connecting three cities – Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

It was obvious that Akasa Air might expand its Goa operations. But the expansion has already started with the Hyderabad addition. Before the summer season of 2023 kicks in, which is mainly the season on school holidays, we can expect Akasa to add flights to Goa from more destinations, possibly from Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Goa is the first proper holiday destination for Akasa Air and it will certainly start building its “tourist network” to reap benefits during the peak holiday season.

Another metro city added

Hyderabad is a metro city and IT hub in India. The addition of Hyderabad signals Akasa’s growth strategy of first building a presence in the metro cities and then expanding to Tier-II or Tier-III cities. This is not at all a new strategy.

With Bengaluru-Hyderabad route, Akasa is entering yet another business-traveller-oriented route. The current flight timings may not suit a business traveller but the airline is may be targeting a mix of business and leisure travellers. We can expect Akasa to add early morning and late evening flights on the route which are targeted at business travellers.
