We are delighted to strengthen our nation-wide connectivity and announce our second destination in Uttar Pradesh with Varanasi. This is the 14th destination on our fast-expanding network. The city is a popular cultural hub of India and a place of pilgrimage for many devotees. Passengers from Bengaluru to Varanasi and Goa will soon be able to experience our warm and efficient customer experience backed by the most affordable fares in the country.
said Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Akasa Air.
Growing rapidly
Within seven months of operations, Akasa Air has added fourteen destinations to its network. Since its launch in August 2022, the low-cost carrier has carried over 1 million revenue passengers and crossed the milestone of operating over 575 weekly flights with an announced network of 21 unique routes.
Varanasi-Bengaluru-Goa and vice versa will be the second route in which Akasa Air will provide “through” flights, meaning passengers will not need to get off the aircraft in Bengaluru. The first route where it offered through flights was Bengaluru-Guwahati-Agartala and vice versa.
Bengaluru is Akasa’s most connected hub, with the airline overtaking Vistara and taking the third spot in terms of number of daily departures in January 2023.
Varanasi is mainly a tourist hub because of its religious importance. From Bengaluru, the airline will face competition of IndiGo and GoFirst. The former operates twice-daily flights while the latter operates a daily flight on the route. Akasa’s twice-daily flight means it will match that of IndiGo’s but the latter’s capacity will still be higher as it deploys 222/232 seater Airbus A321neos on one of its two daily flights.
Meanwhile, Akasa Air recently started flights to Hyderabad from Goa and Bengaluru.
