Thai Airways has placed an order for 45 Boeing B787 Dreamliners.
More B787s
Thai Airways has ordered 45 B787 Dreamliners, with options for 35 more. The order was announced at the ongoing Singapore Airshow. The Thai flag carrier has selected the -9 variant to support its long-term strategy to renew and expand its fleet with more efficient jets, as well as open new routes to support high demand for air travel across Southeast Asia. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027 and will continue for ten years.

Furthermore, we are confident that the acquisition of the 787 Dreamliners will ultimately benefit our customers and support the growth of our country’s economy.

Thai Airways flies widebody jets – including B777s and B787s – to nearly 60 domestic and international destinations, including the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Flexibility
The airline also secured flexibility to convert between aircraft within the Boeing Dreamliner Family, providing the airline with adaptability and versatility to meet evolving market demands. Moreover, Thai Airways has secured a pathway to acquiring the Boeing B777X as part of this arrangement. The carrier says that the “seamless interchangeability between these Dreamliner models and B777X offers THAI strategic advantages in optimizing routes, capacity, and operational efficiency”.

GEnx Engines
These Dreamliners will be powered by GEnx engines. The GEnx engine family has more than 50 million flight hours since entry into service in 2011 and is the fastest-selling, high-thrust engine in GE history with nearly 3,000 engines in service and on backlog, including spares, according to data from its manufacturer.
