IndiGo will fly nonstop to Bali this summer

IndiGo has announced that it will fly nonstop to Bali this summer. The island holiday destination will be the second city in Indonesia to be served by IndiGo after Jakarta.

Nonstop to Bali!

Starting 29th March 2024, IndiGo will operate a daily nonstop service between Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport and Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport with the following schedule:

  • Bengaluru-Bali
  • Departure time: 00:50
  • Arrival time: 12:20
  • Flight time: 7 hours
  • Flight number: 6E1605

  • Bali-Bengaluru
  • Departure time: 11:20
  • Arrival time: 15:15
  • Flight time: 6 hours and 25 minutes
  • Flight number: 6E1606

Bali will be the 33rd international destination and 119th overall destination in IndiGo’s network.

We are extremely excited to announce Denpasar (the main hub of the Indonesian province of Bali) as the newest international destination to join the 6E network. With a hassle-free visa process, Bali has become a preferred destination for tourists. At IndiGo, we have always been committed to providing our customers with superior connectivity and enhanced accessibility. With the launch of these new flights, we aim to not only strengthen the ties between India and
Indonesia but also promote tourism and foster potential business collaborations. IndiGo will continue to deliver on its promise of affordable, on-time, courteous, and hassle-free travel experience across an unparalleled network.

said Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales, IndiGo.

Denpasar, the capital city of Bali, serves as the main gateway to Indonesia’s most famous island. This vibrant city offers several sites of historical and cultural significance with a wide range of lively markets, stunning temples, and museums for visitors to explore. It is also home to some of Bali’s best restaurants, serving delicious local dishes as well as international cuisines.

Longest A320neo route for 6E yet!

The great circle distance between Bengaluru and Bali is 4800 kilometers, while the same between Mumbai and Jakarta is 4637 kilometers. The Bali route is even longer than Delhi-Istanbul route where IndiGo deploys the B777, although Mumbai-Istanbul is longer than Bali route at 4838 kilometers but that route is also operated by B777 aircraft. This makes the Bengaluru-Bali route the longest one yet for IndiGo’s A320neos.

IndiGo’s international network from Bengaluru is not all that great but the fact that the airline serves more domestic destinations from the Southern metro than any other metro makes for a lucrative opportunity to offer convenient connections from across India for those travelling to/from Bali via Bengaluru. This may be 6E’s strategy here to make this route work.

Second Indian airline to Bali

Vistara recently started operations to Bali from Delhi using Airbus A321LR’s (Long Range). That is also the longest route for Vistara’s narrowbody fleet. IndiGo’s Bengaluru-Bali makes for a duopoly in India-Bali market, with Vistara handling traffic from North India while IndiGo from the south.

What’s interesting here is that passengers now have a choice between choosing a premium carrier and a low-cost carrier, with connections in either Delhi or Bengaluru. Multiple one-stop connections in SouthEast Asia continue to be present, with the likes of Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia Group, Thai Airways etc taking the major chunk of traffic.

With IndiGo’s A321XLR (Extra Long Range) coming sometime next year, will IndiGo continue to add capacity on routes like Bali, Jakarta & Nairobi? It all remains to be seen.
