Air Canada to launch Calgary-Delhi route; restart nonstop Toronto-Mumbai flights

Air Canada has announced its largest ever India schedule. This winter, the airline will launch Calgary-Delhi service along with restarting nonstop Toronto-Mumbai flights and increasing frequency on Montréal-Delhi route. Let’s go over all the details.

“Ab India Door Nahin” – Air Canada’s largest ever schedule of India flights

Air Canada today sent a press release titled “Ab India Door Nahin”, meaning “India is not far now”. The airline is going all-in on Indian market this winter with its largest ever schedule. It is adding 40% more seat capacity beginning late October for the Winter 2024-25 season.

Starting 27th October 2024 and running through 28th March 2025, Air Canada will operate 4-flights-a-week between Toronto and Mumbai with the following schedule:

  • Toronto-Mumbai
  • Departure time: 21:00
  • Arrival time: 21:45 (the next day)
  • Flight time: 15 hours and 15 minutes
  • Flight number: AC46
  • Frequency: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays

  • Mumbai-Toronto
  • Departure time: 23:45
  • Arrival time: 07:45 (the next day)
  • Flight time: 17 hours and 30 minutes
  • Flight number: AC47
  • Frequency: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
  • Note: This flight launches on 28th October 2024 and runs through 29th March 2025

These flights will be operated by the airline’s Boeing B777-200LR aircraft featuring 40 lie-flat Business Class seats, 24 Premium Economy Class seats and 236 Economy Class seats including extra-legroom seats, for a total of 300 seats.

In the 2023-24 winter season, Air Canada operated flights between Toronto and Mumbai via London Heathrow using B787-9s Dreamliners. However, it is dropping the London stop this winter and instead is going nonstop using the B777-200LRs (Long Range).

Many foreign carriers still can’t use Russian airspace, meaning that some longer flights between North America and Asia are not possible. United still hasn’t been able to resume Newark-Mumbai service as a result of this.

India is an important market for Air Canada, reflecting longstanding and growing family and trade ties between our two countries. We are thrilled to expand our network to Mumbai and Delhi by building additional scale at our hubs in time for Diwali festivities this fall. With new non-stop flights from Toronto to Mumbai, the addition of new flights to Delhifrom Western Canada via London Heathrow, together with the unparalleled connectivity from our robust North American network, we are solidifying Air Canada as the leading airline offering the most travel options between Canada and India. We look forward to welcoming our customers onboard.

Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President – Revenue and Network Planning, Air Canada said.

This means that the flag carrier of Canada will operate a whopping 25-flights-a-week between Canada and India, providing 7,400 seats each week.

Air India, which is able to use Russian airspace, will also boost its Delhi-Toronto nonstop flights to 10-a-week from the current daily this winter.
