Historical Museums and Monuments in India closed until 15th May

All Historical Museums and Monuments in India under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will be closed until 15th May 2021 due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India.

ASI issued a statement regarding this that reads:

Due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation, it has been decided to close all the Centrally Protected monuments/sites and museums under the Archaeological Survey of India with immediate effect and until May 15, 2021, or until further orders.

Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of state for Culture and Tourism, tweeted:

Presently, India is facing its worst wave of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

In March 2020, similar measures were taken by the Indian Government when nationwide lockdown was announced. However, by December 2020, the ASI eased restrictions and removed the cap on the number of visitors to its protected monuments as cases started to reduce.
