Southwest Airlines has announced that it has extended its bookable flight schedule through 24th April 2022. The airline is expanding its network with multiple new flights from Austin, offering additional options for Hawaii travellers, and flying new point-to-point routes between the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Austin expansion
With the population of Texas’ capital city continuing to grow, Southwest is investing more service than ever before in central Texas. The carrier is the largest carrier in Austin for at least three decades. And now, Southwest plans to increase service on 10th March, 2022 by more than 20 flights a day with nonstop service between Austin and nine new destinations, as well as add additional frequencies on routes already served from the capital of Texas. In total, Southwest now will offer nonstop service between Austin and 46 destinations on up to 105 departures a day.
New Southwest flights from Austin are:
- Amarillo, Texas – starting 10th March 2022
- Charleston, South Carolina – starting 10th March 2022
- Columbus, Ohio – starting 10th March 2022 (will also operate during peak holiday travel periods in 2021)
- Midland/Odessa, Texas – starting 10th March 2022
- Ontario, California – starting 10th March 2022
From 12th March 2022, Southwest plans to start new international service between Austin and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. From the same day, the airline plans to begin Saturday-only flights to the following beach destinations:
- Panama City Beach
- Sarasota/Bradenton
- Destin/Fort Walton Beach

This week also marks a major milestone for Southwest Airlines and the Austin community. The airline first began serving Austin on 15th September 1977.

More Winter and Spring flights to Hawaii
Starting 17th February 2022, Southwest will increase flights in existing routes, such as:
- Phoenix and Honolulu – two daily flights (starting 18th February 2022)
- San Diego and Kona – daily flight
- Sacramento and Kona – 4-weekly flights
- San Jose and Lihue – daily flight
- San Diego and Maui – two daily flights (starting 18th February 2022)
- Sacramento and Maui – daily flight (with additional flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays)
New Domestic and International routes
Starting 17th January 2022, the carrier will fly nonstop between Albuquerque and Burbank, giving passengers travelling between New Mexico and the San Fernando Valley a quicker journey.
Additionally, on 17th February 2022. Southwest will resume flying between Fort Lauderdale and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. On 12th March 2022, the airline plans to start seasonal nonstop service on Saturdays between Denver and Cozumel, Mexico.
