SpiceJet increases flights between Delhi and Rajkot to daily

SpiceJet is increasing flights between Delhi and Rajkot amid strong travel demand.

Daily flights from 1st October

Starting 2nd October 2021, SpiceJet will fly daily between Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Rajkot Airport. Until now, the airline used to operate 4-weekly flights between the two cities despite of strong demand.

The reason behind this is that the Delhi-Rajkot flights are connected with Rajkot-Hyderabad and Rajkot-Goa flights. Let me explain this in a simple way. A aircraft leaves Hyderabad early in the morning and reaches Rajkot. The same aircraft then operates the flight to Delhi. Now, the same aircraft operates Delhi-Rajkot flight in the afternoon. After a quick 20 minute turnaround at Rajkot Airport, the same aircraft operates Rajkot-Goa-Rajkot flights. And finally, the aircraft goes back to Hyderabad in the evening. In total, the aircraft operates 6-flights-in-a-day on Hyderabad-Rajkot-Delhi-Rajkot-Goa-Rajkot-Hyderabad route.

If SpiceJet wanted to increase flights between Delhi and Rajkot, then it would have had to increase flying on Hyderabad and Goa routes too from Rajkot. Hyderabad and Goa flights does not have that much of a demand to sustain daily flights. So all in all, until now, SpiceJet could not increase its flying between Delhi and Rajkot. However, the Delhi-based carrier has got a solution to this.

SpiceJet will continue to operate the morning flights between Delhi and Rajkot 4-days-a-week. For the other 3-days, it will have a evening service between the two cities. The schedule for the evening flights, which start on 2nd October 2021, is:

  • Delhi-Rajkot
  • Departure time: 16:40
  • Arrival time: 18:40
  • Flight time: 2 hours and 10 minutes
  • Flight number: SG2776

Competition amid strong demand

SpiceJet is not the only airline increasing flights between Delhi and Rajkot. Air India, which used to operate daily flights between the two cities, had reduced the frequency to 4-times-a-week. However, starting 1st October 2021, Air India will also operate daily flights between the capital of India and Rajkot.

Indigo continues to operate a daily flight connecting the two cities. So, all in all, from this October, there will be 3 nonstop flights operating between Delhi and Rajkot everyday.

The airline has also announced flights from Hyderabad to Kochi; from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam and Guwahati and between Belagavi and Delhi.
