These flights will be operated by Indigo’s ATR72-600 aircraft featuring 74 standard Economy Class seats. Note that the inaugural flights will be operated at different timings. The new flight to Deoghar will be operated under the UDAN scheme (India’s Regional Connectivity Scheme).
Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer, Indigo, said:
These new flights will enhance connectivity and significantly reduce transit time between Kolkata and Deoghar, from 7.5 hours to less than 1.25 hours.” “The increased access to Deoghar — home to Baba Baidyanath Temple, Trikuta Parvata, Rama Krishna Mission Vidyapith and Naulakha Mandir — will also boost religious tourism in the region.
On 7th June 2022, Indigo had conducted trials with an Airbus A320 aircraft on Kolkata-Deoghar-Kolkata route. The airport got its licence this week from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation regulator.
Deoghar Airport is only the second airport in the Indian state of Jharkhand after Ranchi Airport. The airport has a 2500 meter long runway, capable of handling Airbus A320 and Boeing B737 aircraft. The terminal building has a capacity to handle 200 passengers per hour. The airport has 4 bays, 1 isolation bay and 6 check-in counters.
Meanwhile, Indigo recently resumed its codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines.
