IndiGo expands massively from Hyderabad

IndiGo is betting big on Hyderabad, with a new massive expansion effective next month which includes new flights and increased frequencies. Let’s get into all the details.

IndiGo from Hyderabad

As per X/KvkndP, IndiGo is expanding massively from Hyderabad. This includes new frequencies as well as a new route to Gujarat.

Starting 15th August 2024, IndiGo will fly 12-times daily between Hyderabad (HYD) and Delhi (DEL), up from the current 11-flights-a-day. The additional service departs Hyderabad at 05:00 AM and is operated by A320 family aircraft.

Starting 23rd August 2024, the airline will operate twice-daily flights instead of the current daily service between Hyderabad (HYD) and Guwahati (GAU). The new service departs Hyderabad at 04:55 AM and is operated by A320 family aircraft. On the same day, IndiGo will add one additional 6-weekly frequency to Cochin (COK) departing Hyderabad (HYD) at 02:20 PM operated by A320 family aircraft on all days except Tuesday.

On 1st September 2024, the low-cost carrier will add additional frequencies on the following routes from Hyderabad (HYD):

  • Udaipur (UDR): current 3-weekly frequency goes daily with departure time changed to 07:40 AM instead of the current 02:35 PM operated by A321neo aircraft
  • Varanasi (VNS): additional daily frequency departs at 12:30 PM and is operated by A321neo aircraft
  • Patna (PAT): additional daily frequency departs at 07:45 PM and is operated by A320 family aircraft
  • Bengaluru (BLR): current Tuesday-only frequency departing at 05:20 AM goes daily operated by A321neo aircraft and an additional daily frequency departing at 06:50 PM operated by A321neo aircraft

On 3rd September 2024, the current 4-weekly frequency between Hyderabad (HYD) and Jodhpur (JDH) goes daily operated by A321neo aircraft.

On 16th September 2024, IndiGo will introduce a new frequency to Gujarat and increase frequencies on two routes:

  • Rajkot (HSR): new daily flight departing at 12:10 PM operated by A320 family aircraft
  • Kolkata (CCU): an additional daily frequency departing at 09:40 AM operated by A320 family aircraft

Taking on Air India Express?

IndiGo has always had a habit of cornering its competitors. It tries to corner its market share just when a competitor is trying to take on IndiGo. In the past, there have been many markets where IndiGo gradually gained a foothold when SpiceJet tried to maintain its dominance in that particular market.

With SpiceJet having reduced operations significantly, there has been a new player which is trying to make its mark in the domestic market – Air India Express. What was until now a prominent player in South India-Gulf and South India-South East Asia market is now trying to increase its domestic market share.

It seems like Air India Express is trying to create a strong hub at Hyderabad. In the recent months, it has introduced new flights to Chennai, Bagdogra, Vijayawada and Guwahati in addition to increased frequencies on Kolkata, Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru routes. What’s interesting is that Air India Express is scheduled to launch flights to Guwahati on 1st September 2024 while IndiGo will introduce an additional frequency to the capital of Assam just one week before on 23rd August 2024.

IndiGo, being the largest domestic airline, has always had an advantage over others due to its massive 350+ aircraft fleet. In the case of Hyderabad, IndiGo has been the largest player since many years. Air India Express is kind of a new comer and with this expansion by IndiGo, we may as well see a new competition grow in Hyderabad.
