Air India to operate nonstop flights from Chennai to London

Indian full service carrier Air India has revealed plans for a new nonstop service from Chennai,India to London,UK.

Air India is set to start direct flights between Chennai and London from January,2021.

The addition of this flight to Air India’s London network will make Chennai the ninth destination to be connected by a nonstop Air India flight.

Air India will operate 7 flights a week between Chennai and London.

The Indian national carrier is already operating direct flights to London from 8 different cities including:

  • Mumbai (4 flights a week)
  • Delhi (7 flights a week)
  • Ahmedabad (2 flights a week)
  • Bengaluru (2 flights a week)
  • Goa (2 flights a week)
  • Kolkata (1 flight a week)
  • Kochi (3 flights a week)
  • Amritsar (1 flight a week)

It should be noted that Air India will be operating the flights under the air travel bubble which was signed between India and the UK.

British Airways also operates fives-times-a-week flight between Chennai and London by a Boeing B787 Dreamliner.

“Some of the stations like Delhi, Kochi, Goa and Ahmedabad have seen quite a heavy demand (for London flights),” an Air India spokesperson said.

“We have plans to commence direct operations between Chennai and London from January 2021,” the spokesperson added.
